I'll have to find out where that phrase came from.
After watching my parents face the consequences of their actions (one had a heart attack and the other a diabetic) I want to leave a better legacy for my own children. I have always been the "green" sheep of my husband's family with my children never having had heard the words Twinkie, Ding-Dong or even PopTart. My girls are now old enough that they've been exposed to such wonders through sleep-overs and trips to grandma's house. This doesn't bother me. I think it's fine to have treats at sleep-overs and grandma's house. That's what grandma's are for!
For the first time beginning this summer, I began purchasing "fun" cereal for my kids. I told myself that it was only for the summer...well it is now November and we are still eating cocoa this and frosted that.
So this morning when my middle child asked to put sugar on her cocoa pebbles I was horrified. I'm sure her tastebuds are becoming immune to High Fructose Corn Syrup and other horrific chemicals. (If you don't know me, I enjoy being melodramatic.)
I am making a The-Year-Is-Almost-Over resolution to wake up a little earlier (say, 15 or 20 minutes) and cook breakfast for my kids. They LIKE wholewheat pancakes. They LIKE eggs and turkey bacon with wheatgerm mixed in the scrambled eggs. So, if my kids LIKE and WILL EAT healthy, I need to at least make the effort to make these things for them.
SO! I ask for prayers that God gives me PATIENTS during this transition to healthier eating. It will probably be more difficult for ME than for the kiddos. Good times, Good times...
