I had heard than an abortionist had been murdered. I do not keep up with too much news these days so I did not bother to find out any details about the story. Yesterday I happened to read an article on the Charisma web site that stated that the abortionist was the infamous late-term abortionist George Tiller from Kansas.
The first time I heard about this man was years ago listening to a talk radio program. He had been interviewed by Nightline. I heard audio of segments of the interview. If I remember correctly I actually was able to view the video of that interview where he stated that he had performed 10,000 abortions. If the enemy had the heart and mind of anyone he had the heart of this man. It was one of the most dreadful, sad interviews I had ever seen in my life. He was one of the saddest people when it came to human decency. From time to time since this I would pray that somehow this man could be reached. To say he was demonized is an understatement. You can take one look at his pictures to know that he was being influenced by demons.
At the time I thought that he probably was not a part of any religious setting. To my horror I read this morning that he was murdered while ushering at a Reformed Lutheran Church. For those that follow the news I'm sure this detail has been reported everywhere. To me this brought up a new angle in my mind. I do not know anything about the Reformed Lutherans and what they stand for. My first question was 'How can anyone be a part of a Christian church with no conviction and butcher babies that could live outside the womb?' You may remember a similar situation occurred a few years ago when the BTK killer started murdering again. He was on a church staff while murdering people on the side. How is this possible? What can cause this to occur and what can be done? I'm sure that some Christians will begin to question the spiritual condition of that church like I do at the moment.
There is also the issue of God's judgment. Some Christians will say he reaped what he sowed. This point is interesting to me because there has been an attorney general (I believe) that has been trying to convict Tiller the past few years. The courts determined that he had not broken any laws. Even if he had he probably made enough money to buy people off. I tend to lean on mercy rather than judgment. I do not know if the man ever accepted Christ but it appears that the very long rope that the Lord gave him just broke.
I would love to hear feedback on both issues.
